Trade unions representing two million workers in the Local Government Pension Scheme today received employer proposals for short-term changes to their pensions.
The employer proposals were worse than those the unions threatened strike action over in March and require employees to pay extra contributions.
The trade unions were unanimous in their view that if the Government accepted the proposals, then strike action would be on the cards.
Union officials are seeking urgent meetings with ministers next week at the Labour Party conference.
