UNISON today welcomed the decision by the European Parliament to throw out proposals to privatise red meat inspection, calling it a victory for common sense. UNISON has fought a three-year campaign to persuade MEPs to vote against the extension of company meat inspectors into the red meat sector fearing that without independent inspection, the safety of UK meat would be compromised.
