UNISON, the UK’s largest union, today welcomed the House of Lords vote to throw out the Government plans on foundation hospitals.
UNISON General Secretary, Dave Prentis, said:
“Today’s vote is very good news. It shows there are enough doubts about the Bill as it stands to make MPs think again.
“It is official Labour Party policy to oppose foundation hospitals.
“When the Bill goes back to the House of Commons, we want MPs to be brave, follow Labour Party policy and throw out these damaging proposals.
“Foundation hospitals are being introduced against the wishes of the public and will have a negative effect on patients.”
