UNISON Head of Health, Karen Jennings, reacting to today’s
announcement of the successful preliminary Foundation trust
applications, said:
“Today’s announcement shows that the Government wants to
storm ahead with this misguided and controversial plan without
even waiting for the Bill to go through Parliament.
“We will continue to oppose the establishment of Foundation
Trusts both within Parliament, through the Labour Party and
locally.
“The Bill contains provisions far beyond anything that would be
acceptable. It takes away responsibility from the Department of
Health and puts it into the hands of an uncontrolled regulator. We
will be seeking changes to the Bill over the next six months
running up to the Labour Party conference.”
