The union believes that allowing colleges to charge differential fees is a quick financial fix which means that universities such as the Russell Group can forge ahead at the expense of the rest, with little or no concern about who pays the premium rates. Equality of access will go. Top up fees will replace talent with bank balance as the key criteria for access to education.
