Ministers must take immediate action on sickening energy prices

Freezing price cap would give immediate help

Responding to the energy regulator Ofgem’s announcement today (Friday) of a new energy price cap that will drive bills up by 80%, UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said:

“This is beyond a disaster for struggling households. People can’t even cover basic costs right now so they’ll be feeling sick at the thought of massive energy bills heading their way.

“After months of inertia, ministers must wake up to the seriousness of the situation. The government must start by freezing energy bills right now to stop more families from being driven needlessly into poverty.

“Unless emergency action is taken right away, millions will never recover from the financial damage.”
