Wishing you a Merry Christmas – you deserve it

We know your vital work and sacrifice are the reasons why our country is still going

This year, UNISON’s Christmas video message is a thank you, to all our activists and members, for the work you’ve done throughout this difficult year.

As the biggest and the best union, representing public service workers across the UK, we know your work is 365 days a year, seven days a week and 24 hours a day. We also know that the challenges you will face over this Christmas period are even more severe because of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Throughout this year, you’ve supported each other on workplace issues, educated your local reps, adapted to organising in lockdowns, continued high-profile pay and pensions campaigns, demanded higher standards of health and safety, and supported your local communities.

You also made sure our union’s proud democracy stayed alive by being a part of our special delegate conference, as well as service group and self-organised group conferences.

I promise that your union will continue to be there for you, next year and beyond, so that we can build an even stronger UNISON.

We will deliver a UNISON college to support you at work and in your life, by giving you access to new skills and training, when you want it, to keep up with the changing landscape of work.

Our regions and devolved nations in UNISON will have extra resources to give even more support directly to branches and members. We will campaign relentlessly to protect jobs, and for better pay, conditions, workers’ rights, equality and world-class public services.

As ever, we remain a union that looks beyond our own borders. We will keep up our campaigns for peace and social justice around the world, and for a greener, fairer future for us and the generations to come.

But for now, I wish you, your families and loved ones a peaceful and very happy holiday season. If you’re working over the Christmas break, please know just how grateful we all are. We know your vital work and sacrifice is the reason why our country is still going.

Thank you all once again – and a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year to you all.
