Recognition richly deserved but government must do more for NHS staff

Pay rise would be appropriate way of showing gratitude

Commenting on the Queen awarding the George Cross to the NHS today (Monday) to recognise 73 years of dedicated service and its response to Covid, UNISON head of health Sara Gorton said:

“The NHS truly deserves recognition. The health service and its staff have gone to extraordinary lengths over the course of 73 years – never more so than in the past 16 months.

“But this isn’t enough. Ministers must now honour staff by giving the NHS the resources to tackle the Covid backlog, starting with a decent pay rise for everyone.”
