Covid inquiry next year is way too late, says UNISON

The government owes answers to the workers, the public and the families of those who have lost their lives.

Commenting on the announcement by the Prime Minister today (Wednesday) that an inquiry into the pandemic will not begin until spring 2022, UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said:

“Launching the public inquiry next spring is way too late. It must begin while experiences are still fresh in everyone’s minds. People have already waited long enough.

“The government owes answers to the workers, the public and the families of those who have lost their lives.

“A return to something resembling normality is what people want and deserve. But this can’t happen until it’s clear what went wrong, how the government could have done things differently and where the responsibility lies for any mistakes.”
