Oxford vaccine approval is welcome news, says UNISON

Approval will allow priority for NHS and care staff

Commenting on the approval of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for use in the UK, UNISON assistant general secretary Christina McAnea said today (Wednesday): “This is welcome news for everyone but it’s particularly important that NHS and care staff, as well as residents, are prioritised.

“Employers in the care sector must ensure there’s paid time for staff getting the jab so they’re not left out of pocket for doing the right thing to protect vulnerable people.

“With plentiful supplies soon to be a reality, we must make sure the rollout means the maximum number of care workers are offered the vaccine as quickly as possible.”
