Today I sent the following message of solidarity to our friends at the German union Ver.di following yesterday’s horrific events:
Dear Frank,
On behalf of UNISON and trade unionists everywhere, I wanted to send a message of solidarity to Ver.di members and all of the German people following last night’s horrific events at Breitscheidplatz.
Whilst the details of what happened and why remain unclear at this stage, the heart-rending stories of those killed or injured so close to Christmas, and at what should have been a joyful event, resonate with us all.
Our thoughts today and throughout this Christmas period are with those who have lost loved ones, the injured and those – including Ver.di members – who will work to treat the injured and support grieving families and communities in the days and weeks ahead.
