Conference notes that:
• Far-Right movements often promote traditional gender roles, oppose feminist ideals, and may exploit the fear of societal change to gain support from women.
• Far-Right movements frequently oppose abortion rights, viewing it as a threat to the “defence of life and some far-right groups may downplay or even rationalize sexual and gender-based violence, arguing that it is part of a cultural war.
Conference believes that:
• The rise of the far-right poses a significant threat to women’s rights and can lead to a regression in gender equality.
• That these movements often create narratives of societal decline and use these to appeal to anxieties about women’s roles, their safety and the future of their families.
Conference recognises that:
• Far-Right ideologies often oppose LGBTQIA+ rights, framing them as a threat to traditional family structures and gender norms.
• Far-Right movements may not prioritise workplace equality and may even oppose measures aimed at addressing gender pay gaps and promoting women’s leadership.
• They often portray “cultural others” as threats to women’s rights, using narratives about immigration, Islam, or other marginalised groups to fuel fear and division.
• Women in politics, especially those who are feminist or progressive, are increasingly targeted with online harassment and violence by far-right groups.
Conference is concerned that some women find empowerment within far-right movements, while others are motivated by concerns about their children’s safety or traditional family values.
Conference instructs the National Women’s Committee to:
• support the strengthening feminist movements and advocating for social justice as it is crucial in countering the far-right’s influence.
• promote and advocate inclusive policies to address gender inequality.
• challenge Far-Right rhetoric by refuting the false narratives and hateful rhetoric of the Far Right that is crucial in protecting women’s rights and promoting equality.
