- 2024 National Retired Members Conference
- Date
- 10 June 2024
- Decision
- Carried
Conference notes that, as UNISON rules stand, each Regional Retired Members Committee (RRMC) is entitled to send one representative to National Delegate Conference but may not elect two members to share the delegation.
Conference would like RRMCs to be entitled to elect two sharers. It therefore supports an amendment to rule along the following lines:
Rule D.1.7 National Delegate Conference – The right to attend and speak.
And
Rule F.3.1 Functions of Regions
Add a new rule:
D1.7.8.1 – Each regional retired members committee may, in order to promote proportionality, fair representation or equal opportunities, and subject to the approval of the respective region, elect two members to share the delegation between them. The respective region shall be responsible for any extra costs of this arrangement.
And,
In rule F3.1.10 delete “branches”
If conference carries this motion, then the proposed amendment to rule will be available in the ballot at the end of conference to be selected for National Delegate Conference 2025 (NDC 2025).
If conference carries this motion but does not select the rule amendment for NDC 2025, then conference instructs the Retired members National Committee (RMNC) to raise the issue with the National Executive Council.
Conference observes that rule D1.7.7 treats Regional Young Members Forums similarly so it urges RMNC to consider making common cause with the Young Member Organisation on this issue.
