- Conference
- 2024 National Retired Members Conference
- Date
- 11 June 2024
- Decision
- Carried as Amended
“This Conference notes the decline in available public toilets, which according to a survey undertaken by the Royal Society for Public Health in 2019, means that three in every four people in the UK reported a lack of public toilets in their area. This matter has a particular impact on older people as well as people with disabilities, and parents with children, and in many cases leaves people reluctant to leave their homes.
In some areas coin entry public toilets are being replaced with card entry systems, which can also exclude older people, poor people and children.
Conference therefore calls upon the National Retired Members Committee to lobby local councils, MPs and the Government for the re-establishment of public toilets, ideally without charges.”
