Pensioner Poverty

Conference
2024 National Retired Members Conference
Date
4 June 2024
Decision
Carried as Amended

Conference notes that, despite the Triple Lock formula, pensioner poverty is rising in the UK. A recent Report by the Fabian Society also shows that the number of 60 year olds who are not yet eligible for the State Pension, living in poverty, has tripled since the Tories took power in 2010. Conference also notes that the Pensions and Life Times Savings Association estimates that a single person will need £31,300 a year to live reasonably in retirement. Conference therefore supports the demands of the National Pensioners Convention for the State Pension to be no less than 70% of the Living Wage, and urges the National Retired Members Committee to lobby the Government and all Members of Parliament to support this..
