- Conference
- 2024 Police, Probation and CAFCASS Conference
- Date
- 3 July 2024
- Decision
- Carried
This conference wishes to express its concern about the hostility experienced by Police, Probation and CAFCASS (PPC) members at this year’s National Delegate Conference, particularly on Friday 21st June. Delegates from PPC branches were left feeling disenfranchised, ostracised, and dejected. Members within our service group have supported other areas of the union without fear or favour in countless campaigns for decades. We were founding members of UNISON upon its inception in 1993. It is only right and fitting that we expect a similar level of support when our members are under threat and that PPC delegates are treated with the dignity and respect that other delegates enjoy.
This conference welcomes the letter from the General Secretary 24th June 2024 and the assurance that investigations will be forthcoming arising from complaints.
Conference therefore calls on the SGE to:
1. Write to the General Secretary to express our gratitude and re-emphasise our concerns and to further seek reassurance that our service group will be treated with dignity and respect as members of this union.
2. To request an update in general terms on the outcomes of investigations arising from the complaints submitted at National Delegate Conference by Police, Probation and CAFCAS members.
3. To discuss with the General Secretary and Presidential team the best way to educate UNISON members on the role of Police, Probation and CAFCAS members in delivering public services.
4. Seek further reassurance that if matters arise at a future conference, that they are dealt with effectively, and immediately were possible.
