Conference notes that since the 27 July, and the deadline for submitting Motions for this Conference, there has been a number of statements and announcements internationally that affect the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.

1)The statements from the newly elected President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, against the Brazilian LGBT population.

2. The announcement by the President Trump administration that it intends to legislate that a person’s gender is fixed at birth and cannot be changed.

3. The statements from the Tanzanian Government threatening members of the LGBT community with exposure and violence.

Conference Believes:

4. The struggle for LGBT rights is an international one.

Conference Instructs the LGBT Committee:

A)To work with the UNISON International Department to highlight our support for LGBT rights worldwide.

B. To work with its international partners to oppose these attacks on the LGBT communities.

C. To publicise the Brazil Solidarity Initiative to be launched on 20 November 2018 and seek to ensure effective LGBT involvement in the initiative from its outset.

D. To publicise any campaigns that International Lesbian, Gay, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) participate in on the transphobic attacks by the Trump administration.

E. Publicise any initiatives that ILGA participate in on the situation in Tanzania.
