Date

Decision
Carried

On the 19th of September, Austin Sheridan, an openly gay elected councillor, was the victim of a homophobic attack in George Square, Glasgow outside his place of work.

The councillor was an active member of the YES campaign and his attack was carried out by members of the No campaign who were holding a ‘demonstration’ in George Square.

The attacker has since been detained by Police Scotland.

This conference believes that all homophobic, bi-phobic and transphobic attacks are unacceptable and condemns this unprovoked attack on a member of our community.

This conference instructs the National LGBT Committee to keep the campaign against all acts of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia high on its agenda and to work with Regional LGBT groups to encourage the reporting of all such incidents to the police.
