Conference notes a key finding of the report in the abuse at Winterbourne View Hospital was that the staff were not properly trained.
Training is a key issue for Care. Often training is not provided, or is adhoc and/or inadequate. Furthermore, increasingly, more and more training is delivered as online courses whereby it is not even possible to always verify whether individuals have actually completed the training themselves. Some team managers are using team meetings or other meetings conducted by non accredited individuals as “training” sessions.
Conference calls on the Service Group Executive to work with Local Government Service Group to produce a best practice guide on appropriate training standards in Care before Conference 2015. In particular, the guide should be designed to be used as part of negotiations around the procurement process.
