Campaign Against Supporting People Funding Cuts

Back to all Motions

Conference
2014 Community Service Group Conference
Date
9 November 2013
Decision
Carried

Conference currently local councils are setting budgets with substantial cuts in “Supporting People” funding.

This is having a devastating effect on our member’s terms and conditions; removal of post TUPE enhancements for weekend working, Bank Holiday and Night Waking, sickness absence entitlements reduced from six months full pay, six months half pay to two months full pay, two months half pay as well as refusal to recognize their rights to Union representation by Unison in some employers not to mention the reduction in hours yet no reduction in the actual work load.

This is causing real deprivation financially, increasing workloads, stress and low morale resulting in highly experienced members seeking to leave their employment resulting in a skills gap in the excellent services provided to the most vulnerable people in society who need and rely on the services provided.

The “Supporting Peoples” funding nationally is worth £1 Billion.

Conference calls upon the Community SGE to work with NEC to organize a campaign to establish UNISON as a key player and playing an active role against the cuts and raising awareness
