2012 National LGBT Conference
26 July 2012
Carried as Amended

Conference notes the disregard shown by the Tory led United Kingdom Government to equality in law and the discriminations that employees encounter within their respective workplaces.

Conference also notes that many lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people work within the public services because of the terms and conditions afforded them and the regard to equality of employment that many public sector employers provide.

Conference recognises the UNISON Campaign on Pay in the Public Services and the Pay Seminar held by our union. In support of the campaign, we instruct the National LGBT Committee to:

1)Conduct an audit of LGBT members’ attitudes to the UNISON Pay campaign;

2)Assess and highlight the different implications raised in the UNISON Pay campaign for LGBT members;

3)Explore and suggest ways in which LGBT members can play a part in the success of the Pay campaign.

All the above could take the form of a consultation or research orientated exercise with all regional and branch based LGBT groups in UNISON. We see the findings and issues raised by LGBT members being disseminated and directed into all relevant structures in our union to help inform the UNISON Pay campaign.
