Payments for Future Care

Conference
2010 Retired Members' Conference
Date
17 June 2010
Decision
Carried

This Conference notes with alarm in the recent run up to the General Election, the Conservative proposal for lump sum payments towards future care requirements. This is again an insurance policy aimed at those who can afford such payments – £8000 was mentioned. This sum is equal and sometimes in excess of UNISON retired members’ occupational pension scheme lump sums!

Conference instructs the National Retired Members’ Committee (NRMC) to ensure any proposals will be vigorously opposed by promoting a campaign of opposition in the Trades’ Union Congress, Scottish Trades Union Congress, National Pensioners’ Convention and Scottish PC and affiliate organisations.

Conference further instructs the NRMC to seek the support of the National Executive Council in promoting this campaign
