Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) Guidelines on Staff Complaints

Back to all Motions

Conference
2010 Police and Justice Service Group Conference
Date
15 June 2010
Decision
Carried

The Police Staff conference 2008 passed motion 23, which sought to provide clarity, advice, guidance and joint advice with the IPCC. At the Police Staff seminar that immediately followed, we received reassurances that the Chief Executive of the IPCC Nick Hardwick, with a view to rectifying the situation, would raise the matter.

The IPCC guidance states that our members are unable to make complaints about service provision issues within their own force. To date, we have not received any update or seen any change to the current legislation that prevents our members from exercising their rights as citizens within the UK.

Conference therefore instructs the Service Group Executive to:

1)Make contact with the IPCC to ascertain when we may expect a change in legislation and report back to branches as soon as possible;

2)Continue to seek to provide joint advice with the IPCC.
