Conference
2010 Health Care Service Group Conference
Date
11 December 2009
Decision
Carried

This Conference is concerned that government’s solution to the current recession is through cutting funding to health services is having a negative disproportionate impact on disabled employees. The evidence from the Disabled Members Self Organised Group is that disabled health staff are more vulnerable with regards to redundancy and employers are using false competency measures as a means to the route of dismissal.

Conference agrees that disabled workers are vulnerable to discrimination, face higher levels of living costs and experience more poverty than non disabled people.

This conference charges the Health Service Executive with responsibility for issuing guidance to branches that advises on anti discrimination measures that are in line with obligations for selection for redundancy in accordance with health employers’ responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act.
