DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Back to all Motions

Conference
2009 National Women's Conference
Date
22 October 2008
Decision
Carried as Amended

Domestic violence continues to be a matter of concern to women in UNISON. Despite the fact that there have been many motions to the National Women’s Conference on this issue there are still many of our employers who do not have domestic violence policies for their own staff. Given the increase in the use of sickness absence policies in the public sector it is vital that domestic violence policies are in place to protect the employment position of women members who are living with this abuse.

This National Women’s Conference instructs the National Women’s Committee to:

1)Liaise with UNISON’s Learning and Organisational Services to seek to include training on domestic violence in the National Educational Core Programme;

2)Work with affiliated organisations to provide local information for branches;

3)Promote the need for domestic violence policies in all services;

4)Produce a myth buster information on domestic violence for branches and members, which reflects the diversity of the membership of UNISON;

5)Publicise to members that information is available through the UNISONdirect line on domestic violence.
