DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Back to all Motions

Conference
2009 National Women's Conference

Carried

National Women’s Conference applauds the work carried out by the National Women’s Committee in relation to domestic violence. However, the current monitoring system as decreed by the Home Office does not take into account those aged under 18 who are perpetrators of domestic violence.

For example as a result of the current monitoring process, a woman who is subjected to violence by their teenage son or partner who is under 18, is not taken into account as a victim of domestic violence.

This monitoring sends out the wrong message to those under 18 and it not helpful to those who are the victims of this type of abuse.

This Conference calls on the National Women’s Committee to use its links with women’s groups such as Women’s Aid and Rights for Women, the NEC and Labour Link to call for a change in how monitoring is carried out.

This will allow true data to be collected and the true scale of violence towards women to be revealed.
