NHS charges

Back to all Motions

Conference
2009 National Delegate Conference
Date
23 February 2009
Decision
Carried

Conference congratulates the devolved administrations in Wales and Scotland on progressive reforms they have made. In particular we commend their abolition of car parking fees at NHS sites and the abolition of NHS prescription charges. Both these charges are in effect a tax on sickness and can amount to considerable sums.

These moves are a fitting way of marking the 60th anniversary of the NHS.

Conference calls on the National Executive Council to back and help build the broadest campaign to extend these reforms to the rest of the UK by:

1)Lobbying Westminster MPs;

2)Publicising the issue amongst members;

3)Raising the issue at the highest level of the TUC;

4)Contacting NHS campaign organisations with a view of supporting and helping finance a campaign.
