Subsistence and Overnight Allowances for NHS Staff

Conference passed a motion in 2006 that asked the Service Group Executive to call on the NHS Staff Council to address the lack of increase to subsistence and overnight allowances for staff. The motion requested that as a matter of urgency, they consider:

i.Raising subsistence allowances to the level they would have reached if year-on-year inflation were taken into account.

ii.Reviewing the overnight allowances payable for accommodation to ensure that NHS staff can afford reasonable accommodation while working in the community or NHS business.

iii.Restoring index linking to these allowances.

Conference calls for this issue to be prioritised by the Service Group Executive and not delay any longer the unfair penalisation of NHS workers who are affected by the below-inflation 3 year pay deal achieved in 2008 and report back to Branches on a regular basis.
