2008 National Women's Conference
Date

Decision
Carried

Conference applauds the work undertaken by women members of UNISON, led by the National Women’s Committee and assisted by women in specialist organisations, to raise awareness of the links between some chemicals in everyday use and breast cancer.

Conference urges that this work continues, reinforcing our understanding of the chemicals and products to avoid, and providing information which will reach greater numbers of women members and assist them to rid their lives both at home and in the workplace of these chemicals and the products that contain them.

Conference therefore calls on the National Women’s Committee to produce an information and campaign guide which is specific to the types of work women UNISON members do and the roles they play in domestic environments and which sets out:

1)the chemicals to look out for and the products in which they are used

2)possible safer replacement products

3)ways to campaign to stop our employers using these products and manufacturers from marketing them to us.
