Conference notes that UNISON has shown its commitment to equality for Black members – and to Black Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) members – through reserved seats on the National Executive Council, National LGBT Committee and other national self-organised group committees, and through the requirement for fair representation in conference delegations and all union structures. Nonetheless, quotas are not enough and Black LGBT members continue to be under-represented within UNISON.
Conference therefore calls on regional LGBT groups to continue to take active steps to recruit and organise Black LGBT members. Conference instructs the National LGBT Committee to:
1.Investigate the possibility of leadership training for Black LGBT members;
2.Seek the inclusion of UNISON events of relevance to Black LGBT members and potential members in Black History Month and LGBT History Month;
3.Seek to support networking for Black LGBT members, including by email.
