- 2008 Energy Service Group Conference
- 2 February 2008
Conference welcomes UNISON’s approach to the UK’s future energy needs. It is clear that to develop a sustainable energy industry capable of meeting the legitimate needs of the public will require a mixed approach to generation. This must include a significant role for renewables and micro generation for small scale use, particularly for the domestic market. UNISON also believes that there is a place for clean coal technology within the total mix provided that the energy generators are prepared to make the necessary investment required.
Conference is however concerned about the impact on jobs and careers that such a transition could have. Conference therefore calls upon the Executive to develop a set of objectives designed to achieve an orderly transition from the carbon rich means of energy generation and transmission that exists today towards a low carbon sustainable energy industry for the future.
