Conference notes that:
1.UNISON rule D4.6.3 provides that the National Executive Council shall have the right to send women members of the National Executive Council to the national women’s committee and conference;
2.Elsewhere, rule D4 makes no equivalent provision with respect to the other self-organised group national committees or conferences; but,
3.The current National Executive Council has elected members to serve not only on the National Women’s Committee but also on the National Black Members’ Committee and National Disabled Members’ Committee. However, it has not elected members to serve on the National LGBT Committee.
Conference instructs the National LGBT Committee to consult as appropriate and to:
A.Investigate how current practices have arisen and how well they work;
B.Consider the potential consequences of this self-organised group remaining out of line with the practice of the others;
C.Consider the merits and feasibility of the National Executive Council electing representatives to this conference and/or to the committee from among its lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members; and,
D.Report to next year’s conference with recommendations.
