In September 2006, NHS Logistics showed their solidarity in strength with two one-day strikes, the 1st in the NHS for nearly 20 years. More than 85% were protesting about new labours continuing use of the private sector in the NHS.
Unfortunately, NHS Logistics Members now have to work under DHL and a new name “NHS Supply Chain.” At the beginning of October 2006, the government gave reassurances that terms and conditions will not change and with a robust pay roll system from Accenture, apart from paying members three days late, still taking the strike pay 3 months late, sick pay and shift allowances not being paid.
Conference welcomes the fact that the union pulled together and showed solidarity and support to the five small NHS Logistics branches from the General Secretary, NEC and the Service Group Executive to our brothers and sisters in other branches.
Conference calls on the SGE to continue support NHS Logistics members by:
1. campaigning to bring NHS Logistics back in house;
2. setting up a forum to monitor existing terms and conditions including facilities in outsourced / privatised sectors including NHS Logistics;
3. campaigning to stop any further use of the private sector;
4. working with the broadest possible coalition of community, carer, patient user and campaigning organisations, including campaign groups like Keep Our NHS Public.
