Threatened Hospital Closures

2006 Retired Members' Conference
31 May 2006

Many hospitals and accident and emergency departments are being threatened with closure. This will increase the distance that a lot of elderly people, who do not have their own transport and have to rely on other more costly means, have to travel to get to the alternative establishments.

Also a lot of pensioners live on their own and if they collapse or fall they may not be found quickly, thus putting their lives even more at risk because of the longer journey to hospital.

Conference calls upon the National Executive Council to put pressure on the Government to leave these hospitals alone and consider the needs of our age group for once.
