A Patient-Led NHS

Conference calls on the National Executive Council to reinvigorate its campaign to oppose the government’s National Health Service (NHS) policy, announced in August 2005, “A Patient Led NHS”. The title alone is misleading, as we are continually experiencing on the ground. Patients’ interests do not figure in the interpretation of this policy and our members are already being directly affected.

The government’s policy is now about introducing the privatisation of the NHS through the front door. There will be no protection of NHS services or UNISON members’ rights if the government is allowed to continue with its policy intentions. This policy has been developed with no discussion or negotiation with UNISON. This latest policy will reverse all the NHS reform which UNISON has engaged in, in recent years.

UNISON must do everything to stop this latest policy progressing any further. Say “no” to a two-tier NHS workforce, and “no” to a two tier health service that is privatisation.
