Conference notes the trend towards ever more rigorous application of varied standards before allowing access to pensions in cases of ill health
While we are keen to explore all reasonable alternative work, especially within the rules of the Disabilities Discrimination Act, we are opposed to the termination of contracts due to incapacity without access to pensions
To establish greater consistency and fairness we will campaign through all consultative, negotiation and lobbying channels to:
1)ensure occupational health doctors will consult with specialists in the specific medical condition concerned and take particular heed of that advice before coming to their decision about an individuals future ability to work;
2)give full consideration to medical redeployment or temporary redeployment;
3)establish a uniform and universally available appeal process including an alternative oral independent occupational health doctor’s opinion;
4)allow access to pension rights where there is a probability of long term incapacity rather than a certainty.
