Conference notes that participation and confidentiality in relation to attendance at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Conference is paramount. Conference is therefore dismayed by the decision to add the Police Staff Service Group Seminar and Conference onto the ‘back’ of our Conference.
This decision raises serious concerns of confidentiality in that there is a strong possibility that members could be ‘outed’, as the delegates at Police Staff event will be arriving on the Saturday/Sunday using the same hotels and venue as LGBT delegates. If delegates are not out in their workplace or branch and meet delegates to the Police Staff event this could put them in a difficult/confrontational position, which could have an impact on their full participation in Self Organised Group Conferences.
Conference therefore instructs the National LGBT Committee to work with the National Executive Council, all Service Group Executives and other appropriate structures to:
1.Raise these concerns with the Conference Department and Service Group Executives specifically requesting that no other conferences or seminars are arranged at the same time and venue as the National LGBT Conference in the future;
2.Seek to ensure that future conferences and seminars do not overlap or run immediately before or after National LGBT Conference.
