- Decision
- Carried as Amended
Conference condemns recent attempts to gag workers’ rights to talk to the media about Trust budget cuts, e.g. by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.
Conference believes that individuals have a right to raise concerns which are covered by the Public Interest Disclosure Act. Furthermore Trade Unions have collective freedom of speech concerning the policies and issues of the workplace which are fundamental rights and any erosion of these rights is contrary to the good of society.
Conference therefore calls on the Union:
1. To express its solidarity with workers who raise issues within the remit of the Public Disclosure Act.
2. To give full backing to members who are affected by such gagging measures, by whatever means are appropriate.
3. To work with NHS employers and individual employers to ensure the full implementation of the Public Disclosure Act and to raise awareness of staff rights.
