Conference
2006 National Disabled Members' Conference
Date
6 July 2006
Decision
Carried

This Conference recognises the disproportionate incidence of disability status of women compared with men. Women experience female organ Cancers of the cervix and uterus, twice as many women than men are diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and the incidence of mental health impairment is considerably higher for women than men. The impairment consequences of Female Genital Mutilation may also lead to disability status.

This Conference calls upon the National Disabled Members Committee to liaise with the National Women’s Committee on shared issues of concern and issue guidance for branches regarding anti-discrimination measures, time off work for disability related leave, accessible public services and encouraging more disabled women to become active in their union.
