Palestinian Right to Education

Back to all Motions

Conference
2006 National Black Members' Conference
Date
21 September 2005
Decision
Carried as Amended

Conference expresses its concern regarding Israel’s deportation to Gaza of four Palestinian students at Birzeit University in the West Bank.

Conference notes that these Gazen students have not been accused of any offence; rejects as illegal the condition imposed by the Israeli military authorities that any resumption of their studies would be dependent on the students agreeing to return permanently to Gaza on graduation.

Conference is concerned that the illegal separation of the West Bank from the Gaza Strip exacerbate the existing barriers to Palestinian education and development.

Conference calls on the NBMC to liase with NAPF, UNISON International Department and UNISON Link MPs to urge the UK Government to insist that the government of Israel adheres to its legal obligations to allow unimpeded access for all Palestinian to their educational institutions.

Conference also calls on NBMC to send a strong message of support to the Palestinian confederation of trade unions for their tremendous work done in Palestine.
