Travel Insurance – Age Discrimination

Back to all Motions

2005 Retired Members' Conference
20 June 2005
Carried as Amended

Conference notes the general practice of the travel insurance industry to impose extra premiums on the simple fact that the traveller is of pensionable age.

In view of the European Union’s Directive on Ageism, due to be implemented in October 2006, Conference requests the National Executive Council to conduct a campaign in conjunction with other pensioner organisations to expose this practice and secure non-discriminatory terms.

Conference also requests the National Retired Members’ Committee to approach UNISON’s own UIA insurance company with a view to first encourage retired members to take out travel insurance and secondly, to offer more favourable terms.
