2005 Retired Members' Conference
Date
22 June 2005
Decision
Carried

UNISON retired members have long recognised the need for affordable and efficient public transport for older people.

Conference welcomes the launch of UNISON’s charter for public transport. It stresses the need to re-regulate services to produce improvements and highlights the failure of privatisation with bus fares rising faster than inflation and faster than motoring costs.

Issues addressed by the charter include:

1)accountability and partnership;

2)adequate funding;

3)social inclusion;

4)sure and secure transport.

Conference calls on the National Retired Members’ Committee to work with the UNISON Transport Group Executive and other appropriate bodies to promote the objectives of the charter for public transport.
