Conference notes the publication of “Homophobia – Taking No Pride in Prejudice” by Glasgow City Council as part of its commitment to address all forms of prejudice and discrimination in Glasgow.
Conference congratulates Glasgow City Council for this excellent piece
of research which raises awareness of homophobia and its effects on the
lives of Lesbians and Gay men in Glasgow. Conference also welcomes that the publication, while it frequently uses the term “Lesbians and Gay men” in the context of homophobia, it recognizes that increasingly, debates on “Lesbian and Gay” issues are focusing on a broader, more inclusive and diverse agenda, to include Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender issues.
Conference urges all branches to obtain a copy of this document and urge their employers to conduct similar research in their areas. This document can be used by employers and branches as a training tool which raises awareness of the issue and provides useful “ideas for action” which employers and individuals can
use to tackle homophobia on both a general and personal level.
Conference instructs the National LGBT Committee to write to the Chief Executive and Leader of Glasgow City Council to convey the sentiment contained in this motion.
