Conference notes the issue of Student Visas to overseas nurses by British Embassies in various overseas countries, these applications in the main are being submitted by British Embassies by Agents who’s ethics are questionable. In most cases the applicant is being charged huge fees to have these applications processed by the Agents.

Recruitment Agencies have realised that the interpretation of the adaptation program by the NMC for 1st level Registration by the British Embassies in that the applicants are Students rather than Migrant Workers requiring a working Visa / Permit. Thus allowing the applicants to bypass International Government Requirements on acceptable and permitted Contracts of Employment and Conditions of Service.

The issuing of a Student Visa does not require International Government Approval and the applicants are able to enter the UK without the knowledge of applicant’s country of origin.

Many of these overseas applicants are being recruited into the Private Healthcare Sector to work as H/C/A and adaptation course programs are often non existing or ongoing until the applicants Student Visa expires.

Conference deplores this treatment of often highly skilled nurses of many years experience.

Conference calls upon the Government of the UK to address this situation with tough regulation of those recruitment or agents registered in the UK.
