- Conference
- 2005 Health Care Service Group Conference
- Date
- 20 December 2004
- Decision
- Carried as Amended
Conference notes that with the introduction of Agenda for Change and the demise of the Whitley Councils, UNISONS National Sector Committees come under the spotlight. Areas currently covered by National Sector Committees are:
Administrative and Clerical
Ambulance services
Ancillary and Maintenance
Nursing and midwifery
Professional and Technical “B”
PT “A” (Professions allied to medicine)
Senior Managers
These committees elected from amongst the lay members carry out a valuable task in making sure the issues and problems that are effecting our members at the coal face get fed into the national negotiating structures of the union.
It would be impossible for future negotiators on the NHS staff council to have an understanding of the day to day issues facing our members in all of these sectors, and it is clear the sector committees are vital in ensuring a voice and good democratic processes for an incredibly complicated and diverse organisation such as the UNISON Health Service Group.
Conference therefore instructs the SGE to ensure the valuable work of these committees is continued in any proposals for new structures following the introduction of the NHS Staff Council and that the principles of being lay member led, regionally elected and representative of an existing staff group are continued.
Consequently, Conference resolves to extend the current arrangements for three years. The Health Service Group Executive will conduct a review in consultation with sectors and regions during 2007 and present a report to Conference in 2008.
