Overseas Nurses Network

Conference
2005 Health Care Service Group Conference
Date
30 December 2004
Decision
Carried

Conference notes the success of the Overseas Nurses Network in Scotland and therefore should seriously consider the setting up of an Overseas Nurses Network in England and Wales and an Overseas Nurses Network in Northern Ireland, thus emulating the good practise of our brothers and sisters in Scottish UNISON.

Such a formation of Overseas Nurses Network in England and Wales and Northern Ireland would allow UNISON the high ground in recruiting and organising overseas Healthcare Professional and Carers into membership, thus giving UNISON centre stage as a caring union in those engaged in the NHS or Private Healthcare Sector.

Conference notes the formation of a group of Filipino Nurses, mostly UNISON members who have set up the UK Filnurses Society, under the leadership of a Filipino Staff Nurse – Annabella Mercado of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. This group which number in excess of 250 members are keen to link up with UNISON to become an organised group within UNISON, this group could be the platform for the building of an overseas nurses network in England and Wales.
