This Conference is aware that the burden of debt incurred by AHP students has not been adequately addressed despite previous calls by UNISON and other student representative organisations. The recruitment and retention of graduate AHP’s in the NHS combined with poor entry level pay continues to be undermined by the level of debt incurred during training.
This Conference therefore calls upon UNISON’s national negotiators to raise this with the DH as a priority and to seek urgent examination of the problem. Conference requests that a campaign highlights its concerns and seek solutions to alleviate this burden, such as introducing a ‘golden hello’ system for AHP and other graduates entering NHS and other aligned public sector employment.
