Nestle and the Co-op

Back to all Motions

Conference
2004 National Women's Conference
Date
15 October 2003
Decision
Carried as Amended

Conference applauds the Co-perative movement for its activities in promoting fair trade within its stores and advertising campaigns, and for the Co-operative bank’s policies on ethical investments.

However, Conference notes with concern that in spite of the strong campaign by Baby Milk Action, the Co-op continues to market Nestle products in their stores and even under their own brand name.

Conference therefore asks the National Women’s Committee to:

1)continue to support and publicise the Baby Milk Action campaign at all levels of the union;

2)continue to campaign against Nestle being allocated a stall at the TUC conference;

3)encourage regional women’s committees and branches to highlight this campaign with employers and local communities;

4)provide articles for UNISON publications at all levels encouraging Co-op shareholders to raise the issue at their local Co-operative society members’ meetings to put pressure on the Co-operative Wholesale Society to boycott Nestle products.
