- 2004 Retired Members' Conference
- 11 October 2004
- Carried as Amended
Soon after the formation of UNISON, National Conference agreed that the retired members would have a National Retired Members’ Manager appointed, with the duties of servicing the needs of the retired members.
It was believed by the Conference that this would solve the problems of communication between members, branches, regions and head office with regard to retired members’ issues.
It would seem that this belief has not materialised.
Conference deplores the complete lack of communication between headquarters and branches and the failure by headquarters to respond to correspondence. There is a lack of guidance and support.
1.Requests the National Retired Members’ Committee (NRMC) ask the National Executive Council what can be done to improve communications in respect of the retired membership;
2.Instructs the NRMC to put immediate pressure on the appropriate bodies to secure a retired members’ newsletter and to reinstate the editorial board without delay.
