- Police Staff Conference 2004
- Date
- 26 February 2004
- Decision
- Carried
Conference notes:
1)that the long-awaited legislation protecting workers from discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation has now been in force for a number of months;
2)that many police service equalities policies already included sexual orientation, and others have now been amended.
However, Conference notes that we need now to activate these policies and there is still much to be done to improve awareness amongst managers and workers and to make the legislative and policy changes have a real impact on people’s working lives.
Conference welcomes the advice contained in the UNISON bargaining support guide ‘Negotiating Equality for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Workers’, and calls on all police branches to ensure they engage in the detailed negotiation, monitoring and publicity work set out in the guide.
Conference instructs the Police Staff Service Group Executive to audit progress on negotiating effective changes in policy and practice on combating sexual orientation discrimination in the workplace.
